Deed Book 13, Page 76, 17 Jun 1802

This Indenture made this 17th day of June 1802 between Thomas Barnett of the County of Pittsylvania of the one part and John Barnett of the said County and David Bullock of the County of Louisa of the other part that is to say for and in consideratin of the sum of six shillings in hand paid to the said Thomas Barnett by the said John Barnett and David Bullock – before the signing and delivering of these presents and for the further securing and indemnifying James Barnett and Francis L. Campbell of the County of Goochland as Security for the said Thomas Barnett to a replevy bond given to Smith Young & Hyde on a Decree of the High Court of Chancery which Decree the said Thomas Barnett took an appeal to the High Court of apeales which appeal is yet undertuming and may not be deturming for maney years and that the said securety for fear of acsidents [sic] wishes to be made safe, for the above Considerations the said Thomas Barnett hereby bargin and sell and by these presents hath bargined and soled unto the aforesaid John Barnett and David Bullock the following property to wit, ten Negroes namely Cirus a man, Sam a man, Sarah a woman, Venus a woman, Pahants a girl, Dolley a girl, Rachel a girl, Amey a girl, Ledy a girl, Nance a girl, they & there Increase also twelve fether beds and furniture and all of my households furniture of eve [sic] kind whatsoever a four wheal carage & two whealed shays a waggon  & [line cut off on copy] Milor, one black horse one sorel horse and three bay mares four oxen and thirty one head of cattle, to them the said John Barnett & David Bullock thay and thare heirs forever free from the clame or clames of any person or persons whatsoever, upon the following condishons that is to say if the said Thomas Barnett shall be cast in the appeal aforesaid and suffer the sd James Barnett and Francis L. Campbell to be called on for payment as securety to the said Thomas Barnett to the bond aforesaid then and in that case the said John Barnett and David Bullocks is to take into there posestion all or any part of the property herein named and sell for redy mney so much thereof as will sattisfy the debt costs – and interest on giveing ten days notice on one of the publick Court days of the County of Pittsylvania wherein the Estate now lies and Sattisfy and pay of all the clame that can come against the said James Barnett and Francis L. Campbell as being Security to the Bond aforesaid in Witnessing hereof the Thomas Barnett have heareunto asign’d his name and afixed his Seall the day and date above Written.  Signed Sealed and Delivered in the presence of ---
