Note: The parents of Duncan Bohannon,, who reputedly came to Virginia from Weyznouth, Dorsetshire, England, have not been determined. The parents of Cicely Coilmore are not known, but she may have been related to Thomas Cullamore who was transported to Maryland in 1637.
Wherever his place of birth, Duncan Bohannon came to America via Barbados and lived in Maryland before he settled in Virginia. He and Cicely Coilmore were married in St. Michael Parish, Barbados, on 05 July 1658 and their son John was born there and baptized on 30 January 1658/9:

DUNCAN BOHANNON
According to Ed Dittmer, "The elder Bohannon [Duncan Bohannon, the immigrant] was reportedly of Scottish ancestry living at or near Wymouth, Dorcetshire, England," before emigrating to Barbados. Duncan was married in Barbados July 5, 1658, as St. Michael's Parish records show. So, he had to have left the British Isles before then, and was born well before 1675.
-----
Duncan Bohannon was born circa 1637, probably in Scotland. He died after 1678 and probably before 1704 in Gloucester County, VA after having lived some time in Barbados, Maryland, and then Virginia. He is believed to be the Duncan Bohannon that married Cecily Collmore at St. Michael's, Barbados on July 5, 1658. Duncan was somehow associated with John Neville of St. Mary's Co. (now Calvert Co.), Maryland. Neville sued Duncan for debt by attachment in 1662. This suit was continued in by counsel in 1664 due to the death of the plaintiff (Testamentary Proc., 1657-1666, Liber 1E, folio 102)
Duncan was in Gloucester Co., Virginia by 1667 when Duncan Bohannon and John Mechen obtained rights to 220 acres "one the head of the East most R. adjoining Mr. Armistead and Capt. Dudley" for the transportation of "Thomas Amis, Roger Shackleford, John Blan and John Thomas" (Gloucester Co., VA Book 6, page 102, 20 Dec 1667).
Duncan purchased another 340 acres in Kingstone Parish, "adjoining his own land along the river and Jno. Nevills" from Wm. Armistead (Book 6, page 548, 6 March 1674/5. Next door, "infant John Neville" Kingstone Parish on Eastern Riverside adjoining Duncan Bohannon, Richard Cary, Jno. Armistead; 100 acres Purchased by Duncan Bohannon and Mr. Armistead and sold to the father of "infant John" now due as son and heir of his deceased father (Book 6, page 549, 6 March 1674/5)
Family is reported to have come from Weymouth, Dorsetshire, England has not been proven. Bohannan is used interchangeably with numerous variations. The family descended from Macoum de Boquhanan, whose mane is on the Ragman's Roll in 1296. There is a Buchanan Parish in Stirlingshire, Scotland and the name is also considered local in Fifeshire, Scotland
Duncan Bohannan was:
1. in Barbados in 1658 when he got married and his son John was born.
2. in Charles County MD by May 5, 1662 when he was sued by John Nevill.
(Charles County, Maryland, Chancery Records, 1662)
3. moved to Gloucester Co., VA before 12-20-1667 when he received a patent with John Medhen for 220 acres adjoining the lands of Armistead and Dudley:
4. Was in Gloucester Co., on 6 Mar. 1674/5, p 548, when he was granted 340 acres of land. On the same day Duncan Bohannan transfers the land to "infant" John Neville, p. 549.
William G. Scroggins in his works on Duncan Bohannan suggests: "The second patent suggests that the trouble between Duncan Bohannon and John Neville in Maryland had been settled amicably. The term infant was used to describe juveniles of and age, so this record undoubtedly pertains to John Neville, son of James And Elizabeth Neville, who was born in 1662, married Elizabeth Bohannon and died in 1733. Being involved in the administration of the estate of James Neville, who died in 1674, Duncan Bohannon may have been a guardian of the boy and probably was a relative; perhaps an uncle. Elizabeth Bohannon who married John Neville in 1685 must have been a daughter of Duncan Bohannon.
Duncan Bohannon, Sr. apparently died after he got his patent in 1675 and before the 1704 Virginia quit rents were assessed in Kingston Parish, Gloucester Co., when the 340 acres appear to have been divided between his sons John, Joseph and Duncan Jr.
