Hubbard, William Joseph (b. 1824, d. ?)
Note: In Clay County Kentucky History and Families, Hubbard-Roberts, submitted by Heather Avery, p.261: "... William Hubbard signed up for the Civil War along with his son Joseph in 1861. Joseph was shot in the left hip and leg. He was crippled for the rest of his life." William "... got sick when he was in Young's Point, Louisiana and he couldn't get well so they put him on a hospital boat in Lousiana and took him to a general hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. After he was released from the hospital, he stopped off in Merryweather Hotel in Frankfort, KY and the next morning was found dead. He was buried in the cemetery in Frankfort. They knew who he was because he had his knapsack with him which had in it silver dollars, his name and a few other things."

*** In 1790 there is a Ben Hubbard & a Jacob Hubbard listed in the Wilkes Co. NC census index. From the age of the children, Ben is probably the same one who married Rosanah Dyer in 1784. However, looking at the census image for Jacob shows an entry which has been overwritten and is difficult to determine the first name. I believe this is actually Thomas from the number and age of children plus the entry above is Jacob May and the entry below is John Henson, both of which can be found later in Clay Co. KY.

*** James Hubbard is probable son of Thomas Sr. as he is living near Thomas and his sons in the 1800 Ashe Co. NC census. He first appears on the Clay co. KY tax list in 1809, he and Moses are in the 1810 census and he is joined by Thomas Sr. and other brothers in 1816. He last appears on the tax list in 1822. He is not referenced in the 1832 land transaction as an heir of Thomas Sr. so he either died or moved prior to that. Randolph and Edmond were not referenced either and Randolph lived until 1870 so it is possible that he moved.

Hollingsworth, Frances (b. 1755/1765, d. 1831/1832)
Note: *** Thomas Sr's wife is listed by some researchers as Hollingsworth but I do not have a source for the the name. The land acquired by Thomas Hubbard in 1821 is sold by his heirs to Benjamin Hubbard in 1832. He appears on tax lists until 1822 when a Frankey Hubbard (female) is listed. This is possibly his wife and the older female who is living with Benjamin Hubbard in 1830.

1822 Clay Co. KY Tax List
Jas. Hubbard
Benjamin Hubbard

Mathias? Hubbard (probably Matthew)

*** Frankey is possibly a second wife to Thomas Sr. as the age of the female listed in the 1800 Ashe Co. NC census is 27-45 or born 1755-1773. In the 1810 Madison Co. KY census, the age was over 45 or born before 1765. She was therefore born 1755-1765 and would have been too young to have been mother to Moses who was born 1861-1864. However, the older female in Benjamin's home in 1830 is listed as age 80-89 or born 1841-1850 and she would have been old enough to have been Moses' mother. Ages seem to vary quite a bit from census to census. Middle age people often report younger ages and older ones age much faster than 10 years between census years. We really need a marriage reference to lock this down but I suspect from the age difference between Moses and his brothers that Moses was a son from an earlier marriage.

*** Benjamin originally acquired land 1823 in Knox Co. KY but was back in Clay Co. KY by the 1830 census. I suspect he was living on his father's land after Thomas Sr's death and his brothers sold him their parts when their mother died 1831-1832.

*** Benjamin Hubbard is found with Thomas Sr. and his sons in Ashe Co. NC and is likely another son to Thomas. In 1832 it appears that his brothers sold to him their parts of the land inherited from Thomas Sr. It also looks like six of his daughters married between 1820 and 1830 as only one is listed in 1830.
