Staats, Pieter Pietersen (b. 6 JUL 1663, d. 1748)

Pieter Pieterson married Lysbeth daughter of Aerts Anthonisse Middagh and Breckje Bergen. Lysbeth was a granddaughter of Sarah Rapalje and Hans Hansen Bergen. Sarah we the first white child born in New York. She was born on June 7, 1625 to Jorise Jansen Rapalje and Catherine Tricault Hagenots. Sarah married first Hans Hanse Borgan an emigrant from Bergen Norway. He is the Ancestor of the Bergen Family in America. He emigrated in 1633 died 1654. Sarah married secondly Tunis Gysberts Bogoert, who became the emigrant ancestor of Bogoert family. He emigrated from Heikop, Province of Utrecht, Holland in 1652. Sarah Rapalje was the mother of eight children by Bergen and supposed ten by Bogoert. She is said to be the common ancestor of the two prominent American Families today.

Pieter Pietersen Staats born in Brooklyn 1663 took the oath of allegiance as native of Brooklyn in 1687.

Pieter lived in Richmond County in 1701 and was constable of the North Division of Staten Island in 1702 and 1703. He remained in Staten Island at least 1724 where on March 6 of the year his earmark was recorded. Similar in purpose to a cattle brand and earmark was distinctive notch pattern cut into an animal's ear.

The census of Staten Island of 1706 lists Pieter with a family of 4 women, 3 boys, 2 girls. The women were his wife Lysbeth and his sisters Annarithe, Anna and Grace. The boys were Peter, Abram and Edman, and the girls were Magdalene and Elizabeth.
