From an article in The Quill Pen. Feb. 1990
A group of 51 prominent residents of King & Queen Co. in 1702 affixed their signatures to a Declaration of Loyalty and Devotion to William III of England. The name of John Pigg the younger was included. That same year he was serving as Deputy Sheriff of the County. In addition to his other duties, John assumed the position of Clerk of the Vestry for Stratton Major Parish. Because of the shape of the parish, it was divided into two parts, making it necessary for John Pigg to travel many miles to attend the meetings of both segments until 1735, the probable year of his death.
