Bullock, Mary Polly (b. Abt 1702, d. ?)
Note: Mary Polly Bullock b: 1702 - no further information available at this time. She may possibly have been married to John Moore b: 28 Sep 1706 in Albemarle, VA d: 1785 in Albemarle Co., Vir. Son of John Moore and Susannah Price whose first wife was Mary Susannah Jouett. He married a Mary Bullock. There are eleven children and only the first, Matthew, was born to Mary Jouett - the others were supposedly born by Mary Bullock. It is possible that John Moore married a third time to a Martha, daughter of the elder John Harvie who may have been the mother of the last child listed: Matthew Redd MOORE b: 1738 in , Hanover Co., Vir.; Lucy MOORE b: Abt 1740; Frances MOORE b: 1740 in Vir.; Elizabeth MOORE b: 1747 in Albemarle Co., Vir.; Mary MOORE b: 17 Jan 1748 in Albemarle Co., Vir.; John MOORE b: 1750 in Albemarle Co., Vir.; Ann MOORE b: 17 May 1755 in , Albemarle Co., Vir.; Susannah MOORE b: 1 Feb 1756 in , Albemarle Co., Vir.; Edward MOORE b: Abt 1757 in , Albemarle Co., Vir.; James MOORE b: 1758 in Albemarle Co., Vir.; Martha MOORE b: 13 Apr 1763 in , Albemarle Co., Vir.; William MOORE b: Abt 1778 in Of, Albemarle Co., Vir. It is said that "Mary (Bullock) Moore is known to have been the sister of Patterson Bullock of Louisa County." This makes sense even though I cannot document it. Susannah Moore, dau b 1 Feb 1756 married David Bullock b: 10 Nov 1757 Albemarle Co., Virginia, Patterson's son.

Moore, John (b. , d. ?)
Note: Married Mary Susanna Jouett then Mary Bullock)
Birth: 28 Sep 1706 in Hanover Co., Vir.
· Death: 1785 in , Albemarle Co., Vir.
· Burial: 1785 , , Albemarle Co., Vir.

Abstract from the "Newsletter of the Descendants of John Moore of Albemarle Co, Virginia (died 1777)," April 1991:
It would appear that John Moore [Albemarle Co VA, d 1777] had only two wives and that Mary (Bullock) Moore was the mother of all his children except Matthew, the eldest. Mary (Bullock) Moore is known to have been the sister of Patterson Bullock of Louisa County.

The first wife is believed by many of descendants to have been the daughter of Matthew Jouett, of whose will John Moore was executor. This thesis borrows support from the fact that John Moore's oldest son was named Matthew. The evidence indicates, however, that Matthew Jouett married John Moore's sister Susannah. But it is significant that the name Jouett occurs nowhere among any descendants of John Moore's son Matthew.

Captain John Jouett, born 7 December 1754, was the most famous of John Jouett, Sr., and Mourning Harris Jouett's nine children. Captain Jack was a big man. He was six feet four inches tall and weighed 220 pounds.

In 1781, when Cornwallis advanced towards Richmond, the Virginia Assembly adjourned to meet in Charlottesville. Colonel Banastre Tarleton with about 250 mounted troops headed towards Charlottesville in hopes of capturing members of the Virginia Assembly. On the evening of June 3, 1781, Captain Jack Jouett, who was at Cuckoo Tavern in Louisa County, about a mile west of John Jouett's plantation, found out that Tarleton and the British troops were approaching. Taking a short cut through the woods, Captain Jack rode over back roads and paths and thickets to Charlottesville, about forty miles away, and gave the alarm before Tarleton arrived there. The limbs and brambles Captain Jack rode through in the dark whipped and slashed him so that his face was scarred for the rest of his life. At daybreak, Jack Jouett arrived at Monticello and warned Governor Thomas Jefferson of the imminent danger.

Martha Jefferson and the two small Jefferson daughters left hurriedly for the nearby Carter estate, Blenheim. Jack Jouett then rode on into Charlottesville and warned the Virginia Assembly that the British were coming. In addition to saving the Jeffersons from being captured, Jouett's ride also enabled Patrick Henry and three of the signers of the Declaration of Independence to leave Charlottesville and avoid capture by Tarleton. The three men who signed the Declaration of Independence were Thomas Nelson, Jr., Richard Henry Lee, and Benjamin Harrison.
